PRAYING

With Christ in the School of Prayer

Day 21 – The All-Inclusive Condition

“If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you will, and it will be done for you.” – John 15:7.

In this verse, Jesus articulates a promise about prayer and our relationship with Him. It’s a promise with a condition: our ability to ask and receive is intrinsically linked to our union with Christ. This bond is not a superficial connection but a deep, transformative relationship that shapes our desires and aligns them with God’s will.

To truly grasp this concept, we must understand what it means to “remain in Christ.” This is more than regular church attendance or daily prayer; it’s a continuous, conscious decision to live in His presence, letting His words and Spirit mold our thoughts, actions, and desires. It’s about developing a lifestyle where Christ is not just a part of our lives but the very center of our existence.

When we live in such harmony with Christ, our prayers reflect His will. They become powerful, not because of our righteousness, but because they flow from a life deeply rooted in Jesus. This is where the promise of “it will be done for you” becomes a reality. Our prayers, in alignment with God’s will, are granted because they originate from a heart fully surrendered to Christ.

However, many believers struggle with unanswered prayers, leading to confusion and doubt. This discrepancy shouldn’t prompt us to question God’s faithfulness but to examine our relationship with Him. Are we truly abiding in Christ as we ought to? The key lies in understanding that abiding in Christ is a journey of faith, obedience, and continuous growth.

Initially, abiding in Christ is about faith – trusting in Jesus despite our weaknesses and limitations. This faith then evolves into obedience, where our actions and choices reflect our commitment to Christ. As we grow spiritually, our understanding of abiding deepens. It’s no longer just about belief and obedience but about a profound union where our lives are completely intertwined with Christ.

This deeper union transforms our prayers. They become expressions of Christ’s will, infused with His power and authority. Such prayers are effective because they are in perfect harmony with God’s will.

Word in Action

Reflect on your relationship with Christ. Are you truly abiding in Him, or just going through the motions? Commit to deepening this relationship. Spend time daily in His presence, immerse yourself in His Word, and let His Spirit guide your actions and decisions. As you grow in your union with Christ, witness how your prayers become powerful and effective.

Wonder in the Word

Consider your current prayer life. Do your prayers reflect a deep, personal connection with Christ, or are they driven by personal desires? How can you align your prayers more closely with God’s will?
