Day 12 – The Secret of Believing Prayer

“Jesus responded, ‘Have faith in God. Truly, I tell you, if anyone does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore, I tell you, whatever you pray for and ask about, believe that you have already received it, and it will be yours.'” – Mark 11:22-24.

In this passage, Jesus reveals a crucial element in our spiritual journey: the secret and promise of believing prayer. It’s a promise that resonates with immense power and hope. Yet, it often leads to a question: How can we cultivate such unshakeable faith, a faith that firmly believes in receiving what it asks for in prayer?

The answer lies in Jesus’ initial command: “Have faith in God.” This is the foundation. Our confidence in God’s promises is intrinsically tied to our faith in Him. Trust in a person’s word springs from trust in the person themselves. Faith, therefore, begins in a deep, personal relationship with God, where He is our all, and our heart is wholly open to His divine presence.

Faith can be likened to our senses – it’s the ear that hears God’s promises and the eye that perceives His truth. Just as we trust what we see and hear, our faith in God’s promises grows from our understanding of who He is. Jesus urges us to realize the living reality of God, to see Him, to hear Him, and to let His presence fill us. Faith is the channel through which God’s presence flows into us, transforming our very being.

Yet, faith is not static; it’s an active surrender, a constant dialogue with God. It is through this continuous engagement that faith grows and strengthens. We learn to hear God’s voice more clearly and see His hand more distinctly in our lives. This relationship turns the words of Scripture from mere text to living reality.

The power of believing prayer springs from a life steeped in faith. It’s about knowing God, understanding His nature, and trusting in His character. When we focus more on God Himself rather than just the promises, our faith deepens. As we cultivate this intimate relationship with Him, believing in His promises becomes a natural extension of our faith in Him.

Throughout the Bible, we see examples of this. Abraham’s faith in God’s promises stemmed from his deep, personal experience of God. The strength of our faith in God’s promises is directly proportional to our perception and experience of God Himself.

This leads us to the realization that our struggles with faith in prayer often reflect our need for a deeper relationship with God. Strengthening our faith is less about focusing on the promises and more about deepening our communion with God. When we see God as a God of love, eager to bless and share Himself, our faith naturally grows.

Jesus teaches us that prayer is more than just a means to receive; it is a pathway to a deeper fellowship with God. It’s about entering into a relationship where we recognize ourselves as His friends and children. As our understanding of who the Promiser is deepens and as our experience of God’s presence deepens, so does our faith in His promises.
