Standing Firm in Fearful Times

Courageous Living in the Light of God’s Promises

Sep 10, 2023

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9, NIV)

Stepping into the unknown can be a daunting experience. Fear of the future, of failure, and even of success can paralyze us and prevent us from moving forward. But in the book of Joshua, we are reminded that fear and discouragement have no place in the life of a believer, because we serve a God who is always with us.

This verse comes at a pivotal moment in Israel’s history. Moses has just passed away, and Joshua is now tasked with leading the Israelites into the promised land. It is a monumental task, fraught with uncertainty and potential danger. Yet, in the midst of this daunting transition, God reassures Joshua with a powerful command that applies to us today: Be strong and courageous.

The strength and courage God calls for are not rooted in our abilities or resources, but in His unwavering presence. “For the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” This promise is the foundation of our courage. We don’t face the unknown alone; God is with us, guiding us, strengthening us, and empowering us.

Embracing this divine assurance transforms fear into faith, worry into worship, and anxiety into anticipation. When we recognize that our God is greater than any challenge we face, we can move forward with a boldness that defies the odds.

The same God who was with Joshua thousands of years ago is with us today. His promise still stands, and His presence is still our source of courage. So whatever you are facing today, remember to be strong and courageous. The God of the universe is with you, and in His strength, you can boldly embrace the future.
