Unshaken

Standing Firm in Fearful Times

Unshakeable Love

Sep 1, 2023

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39, NIV)

These two powerful verses conclude a significant chapter in Paul’s letter to the Romans, where he lays out the incredible depths of God’s love for us—a love so great that nothing in the universe can sever it.

Let’s put it into perspective. We live in a world filled with uncertainties and fears. From financial issues, health concerns, and relationship troubles to larger worries about the state of our planet, there’s no shortage of things that can make us anxious or afraid. It’s natural for these concerns to cause us worry and induce fear.

But Paul’s message to the Romans—and to us—is a potent antidote to these fears. The Apostle is thoroughly convinced—fully persuaded—that no power in the universe can sever the bond of God’s love for us. This declaration is not just a passive, distant kind of love. It’s an active, intimate, and transformational love shown to us through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

This divine love can be our anchor amidst the storms of life, the constant in the face of every change, the promise that quells every fear. Even when we feel weak and vulnerable, when anxieties threaten to overwhelm us, we can rest assured that God’s love is a steadfast reality that won’t change.

What an amazing truth to hold on to! If you’re in Christ, you are firmly within God’s grasp, and His hold on you is unshakeable. Your circumstances may be tumultuous, and your fears might be intimidating, but they cannot remove you from the sphere of God’s love. This truth doesn’t exempt us from challenges, but it assures us of a loving God who walks with us in every circumstance.
