Standing Firm in Fearful Times

The Boldness of Righteousness

Aug 15, 2023

“The wicked flee when no one is pursuing, but the righteous are bold as a lion.” (Proverbs 28:1, ESV)

This scripture presents a vivid contrast between the wicked and the righteous. The wicked live in constant fear, even when there’s no clear and present danger. It’s as though they’re haunted by their own shadows, their wrongdoings, and their guilty consciences. But the righteous, those who live in alignment with God’s laws, are as bold as a lion.

In nature, the lion is not the biggest, the fastest, or the strongest animal, but it’s often called the king of the jungle. Why? Because of its attitude, its fearlessness. The lion operates with a profound sense of authority, and this authority stems from its boldness.

When we align our lives with God’s Word, we’re gifted with a sense of boldness that transcends human understanding. It’s not a reckless boldness that leads us to unnecessary danger but a godly confidence that enables us to face life’s challenges without fear. It empowers us to step out in faith, to stand for what’s right, and to confront injustice without wavering.

Perhaps there are areas in your life where fear has been holding you back. Maybe fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of the unknown, or even fear of success. Today’s verse is a reminder that, as a child of God striving for righteousness, you have access to a divine boldness that can overcome any fear.

God doesn’t promise us a life without challenges. Still, He does promise that with Him, we can face those challenges with lion-like boldness. Let’s ask Him today to help us live righteously and grant us the boldness we need to conquer our fears.
