“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.” (Psalm 55:22, ESV)
Anxiety and worry have a way of creeping into our lives, burdening our hearts and minds with fear, uncertainty, and doubt. But the psalmist provides us with a clear instruction in dealing with these burdens – cast them upon the Lord.
When we cast something, we let it go, we throw it off ourselves. This action indicates a deliberate decision to no longer carry what has been burdening us. It’s not about denying our anxieties or pretending they don’t exist, but about actively deciding not to bear them ourselves.
But where do these burdens go? The scripture tells us to cast them on the Lord. In doing so, we are not just ridding ourselves of our burdens; we’re entrusting them to the care of the One who rules over the universe. The One who has infinite wisdom, power, and love. The One who cares for us deeply.
The latter part of the verse assures us of the result of this action. The Lord will sustain us. He will not allow us to be moved, to be shaken loose from our secure position. When we entrust our burdens to the Lord, He provides us with strength, stability, and assurance that He is in control.
During this series, as we confront our fears, worries, and anxieties, let us practice the art of casting our burdens on the Lord, trusting in His ability to sustain us.
